Art & Enterprise: American Decorative Art, 1825-1917: The Virginia Carroll Crawford Collection
Published in Hardcover by High Museum of Art (June, 1999)
Author: Donald C. Peirce
Average review score:

Art and Enterprise: American Decorative Art 1825-1917
Art and Enterprise: American Decorative Art 1825-1917: The Virginia Carroll Crawford Collection at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta is a catalogue of the collection as of the date of publication. Catalogues of exhibits and collection have always been a wonderful source of knowledge and this one is superior even in this elite category. The collection's goal has been to represent the period from 1825-1917 in American Decorative Art with masterpieces whose superior quality is matched by their historical significance. This goal is key to this book as a major focus in not just the object but the history of the manufacture or of those involved in the object. With a total of 227 objects arranged chronologically by style, this book is a wonderful reference for this period.

Austin: An Illustrated History
Published in Hardcover by American Historical Press (November, 2001)
Authors: David C. Humphrey and William W., Jr. Crawford
Average review score:

Terrific history with excellent photos and drawings
If you want to see and read about Austin's history, this is the book for you. The book covers Austin's story from its inception in the late 1830s to the mid-1980s. Overall, I learned how Austin evolved into the city it now is.

Having just read Steven Saylor's "A Twist at the End" and visited the O. Henry Museum, I was most interested in Austin's history during the last two decades of the 19th century. Readers wanting to know more about other parts of the city's history will find that the text and graphical content puts each stage of Austin's development into a useful perspective.

I learned...and thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Autobiography of a Yankee Mariner: Christopher Prince & the American Revolution
Published in Paperback by Brasseys, Inc. (27 January, 2003)
Author: Michael J. Crawford
Average review score:

wonderful!
In 1803 Christopher Prince sat down to write his autobiography for the second generation of his family. Little did he realize tat four hundred years later this book would bee reprinted and sold to hundreds, if not thousands of people! The Autobiography of a Yankee Mariner edited by Michael Crawford is the first had account of a man that witnessed the famous events that marked the American Revolution. Prince served as a captain of a British prison ship that during the invasion of Canada, the years 1774-1776, he also changed sides and helped the patriots in the years 1776-1777.
The Prince documents were donated to the Naval Historical Center in 1943.
Prince's history is very interesting, perhaps it is because this really is the first time anyone has ever seen it.

Baboon Dooley Rock Critic! Baboon Gets Ahead in Life
Published in Paperback by Susan Poe (December, 1988)
Author: John Crawford
Average review score:

Trenchant Probings of Subcultural Folly
Oops, that summary makes me sound like one of Crawford's characters (NOT a self-compliment). But that's only fair, as his art functions best as a mirror in which we in the supposed "underground" (which term has lost most of its meaning since these cartoons first appeared) can laugh and wince at our own absurdity. His grotesque drawings and ripsaw wit make mincemeat of everything lame and pretentious about the musical/political "subcultures" that festered around the SF Bay and in fact most coastal cities. (By refraining from Goya comparisons, can I avoid sounding like Crawford's character Art Hefty? Hope so.)

Many people objected to his attacking already marginalized groups, comparable to stomping a paraplegic, and largely sparing more deserving targets in mainstream society. But, I think he detected a certain precious, self-congratulatory arrogance on the part of these (largely) declasse, parent-supported hipster frauds. And his spindly, ink-clotted caricatures and lacerating prose gave these parasites a kicking they won't soon forget. And which they had previously been exempt from.

Every movement needs antibodies to fight the rot and sanctimony that eventually turn all "avant gard" cabals into impotent, mutual-admiration societies. Crawford provides such healthful abuse, leavened with rip-cracking humor and a supple penline. Many of his targets are still around, still doing their clownish damage, so buy this book as soon as possible.

And relax--it's not nearly as solemn as I've made it sound.

The real Christmas story told in a fun & imaginative way!
"A BABY who will change the world-- born in our stable tonight?" the animals ask. The Ox thinks it will be a baby ox.
Tthe sheep thinks it must be a newborn lamb. The cow is certain it will be a calf. How shocked they are to learn that it's a baby human boy. "How can a sinful human save humans from their sins?" they exclaim in astonishment. When they see that this is no ordinary human baby-- but God's perfect Son, they're elated. Bilingual Education: History Politics Theory and Practice
Published in Paperback by Bilingual Education Serv (1995)
Author: James Crawford
Average review score:

Bilingual education, history, politicis, theory and practice
Excellent book that covers all topics needed in a Foundations course for teachers that are working to obtain a Bilingual/ESL endorsement. The book covers the legal requirements for Bilingual education, gives pertinent court cases that have impacted the education of LEP studnets and gives an comprehensive history of bilingual education in the United States. The section of the effectiveness of bilingual education was thought provoking and created much class discussion, as did the section giving case studies. The teachers were able to relate thier own classroom experiences and compare those with the case studies. The book has a chapter on Indian education that was very useful to our district on a reservation. The section on theroy to practice was determined to by the teachers to be very productive.

Bring Back Barkley
Published in Paperback by PAGES Publishing Group - Willowisp Press (01 January, 1998)
Authors: Marilyn D. Anderson, Marilyn D. Anderson, Mel Crawford, and Dogs
Average review score:

Naturally I love it
BRING BACK BARKLEY is the 3rd book in my series about Barkley. When I got ready to write it, I decided I wanted the dog to have some crazy adventures with a bird. At first I thought a parrot might be fun because it could talk. But a parrot would be too heavy to land on Barkley's head. Then I thought about a parakeet. But a parakeet would be too small to cause much trouble. When I decided to use a cockatiel, I discovered that my editor owned one of these birds. She was a great help in making the bird become real.
